ST. PATRICK'S DAY.

As we propHesied in our last issue the Good Templar pic-nic last -Friday was a great success. Nothing had been left undone by tbe Committee in providing amusements ami prizes for the children, and they were rewarded by heoring expressions of satisfaction on all sides. Although the appearance of the sky on Thursday evening seemed to foretell bad weather, on the following day the sun shone brightly, and people who ihad -intended to stay at home were tempted ont to the grounds. It -is needless to add that when once there none of them regretted their .journey. Mr G. Murray catered for the company in a way that left nothing-to be desired. As it-would take up too mudh space to describe the -various races, we merely give the names of the winners as follows:

At the concert for the benefit of the funds of the -Duustan Hospital in the evening every available seat was occupied before the concert commenced, and late comers barely obtained standing room. The singing was superior to what is usual'y beard by an upcountry audience, -most of the performers receiving well desereved encores. The Alexandra Brass Baud gave their assistance gratuitously aud playe 1 the overtures in splendid style, besides playing for the dance lateran. The approximate receipts for the ■concert were £27 Ss 6d ; the expenditure, about £7 3s 6J, leaving over £2J for the benifit of the Ounstan Hospital
