It has transpired that the Hon. J.G. Francis has declined the Agent-Generalship for Victoria in London. A telegram has been received at Melbourne from Capetown stating that there was smallpox on hoard the Orient steamship Garonne when she left that port for Adelaide. She is now shortly duo at the latter place, and the necessary precautionary measures are being taken there. The Victorian revenue returns for the quarter and the yea r ended December 31, have been published. The revenue for tho past quarter was L 1,375,000, being an increase of L124,(100 compared with last year The revenue for the year amounted to 1.5,428,001), being a net increase of 1.723,000 compared with 1880. Under the varim b heads of revenue, tho following increases on tic year are shown Customs, 1.201,0 i 0 excise, L 182,000 ; railways, 100,009; toiritorial, 1.52,000. The expenditure for last quarter amounted to L 1,519,000. The Garonue arrived at Adelaide from London on Jan 3. She has two cases of small-pox on board, and has consequently been quarantined. It has transpired that one death from small-pox occurred on board the Garonne before she arrived at the Cape.
