VACCINATION.
the public vaccinator for Clyde, Alexandra, and Blacks distiicts, informs us that he has received instructions to at once take stops to have vaccinated all school children who have not yet been successfully operated upon ; and that, in accordance therewith, he purposes in a few days making a visit of inspection of all the schools in these districts. We understand no fee will be made for the operation. In the communication of instructions attention is drawn to sections 1(34 and 155 of “The Public Health Act, 187(3,” which provide: “Every child admitted to any school which shall be maintained in whole or in part by grant or from rates or any public funds, or by endowments, whether colonial, provincial, municipal, or district, shall bo vaccinated by a public vaccinator, unless such child shall have been previously vaccinated ; in ease of persons above the age of 16 the examination shall be conducted by a legally-qualified medical practitioner, and the person, it necessary, be vaccinated by him. It shall be lawful for any registrar or for any public vaccinator, or for any vaccinator inspector—and such officer last aforesaid is hereby required—to cause a notice in the form of the seventh schedule of this Act to be handed to the parent or other person having the custody of any unvaccinated child over the age of six months, and under the age of 14 years, resident within his district; if after such notice such parent or other person, as the case may he, shall neglect for a period of one mouth to cause such child to he vaccinated, such parent or person so offending shall forfeit a sum not exceeding 405.”
