THE APPROACHING ELECTIONS.
The “Daily Times’'” Wellington correspondent says Nothing is definitely settled as yet-im respect to the dissolution of Parliament, but every exertion is being used to press on the compilation of the new electoral rolls. Only a mouth is allowed for this by the Act, but it is questiouable whether in some of the outlying districts the work can possibly be completed within the prescribed time. It is, however, desired to get the election over as early as practicable—at any rate before Christmas if it can be managed, and no effort will be spared to eusure this. Mr W. A. Murray telegraphs to the “ Bruce Herald” that the general elections take place in December. From enquiries we have made in very good quarters, W'e are given to understand th«t the Government see the great difficulty in preparing the rolls for many of tho new electorates, and that tho elections will not take place till towards tho latter end of January. [Since the above was in typo, we understand an order has been issued that all the rolls have to be completed by the 24th of this month. It may therefore be presumed that the elections will take place during the currency of the present year.)
