The Land Board yesterday passed a resolution with a view to submitting to Government for its approval their determination concerning Otago runs, and also to give the present lessees due notice, in the terms of the Act, without any delay. Two fresh oases of small-pox have been discovered in Sydney. A destructive fire occurred at Brisbane on Tuesday. The property destroyed was insured for .£B,OOO, £7OO being in New Zealand offices. At the Supremo Court, Auckland, yesterday, L. Hayes was found guilty of rape. Owing to prisoner swooning in Court, sentence was deferred. The Hon. Mr Dick will stand for Dunedin, and Mr Bathgate for Boslyn, at the coming elections. At Land Board yesterday, Marie’s application to purchase sections in 1 Leaning Bock district was read, and it ! was resolved—That notice of intention to grant be gazetted.
The now income tax imposed on the police amounts to over £9 a year per man. LONDON, October 5.
