BRITISH AND FOREIGN LONDON, August 6. A banquet given to Her Majesty’s Ministers by the Liberal party in recognition of the policy carried out by the Government, took place at the Mansion House to day. All the members of the Ministry were present, including Mr Gladstone, whoso health has greatly improved. PARIS, August 6. Telegrams from Tunis report that the state of that country is much calmer, the Arab rising having considerably subsided. CALCUTTA, August 6. News is to hand from Candahar that Ayouh Khan is now preparing to advance on Cabul, and is being joined by largo bodies of Duranis. August 8. Telegrams to hand from Afghanistan announce that the Ameer Abdul Rahman is now at Khelat, engaged in massing troops from surrounding country. NEW YORK, August 6. A largely attended meeting was hold at Chicago to-day, under the auspices of tho Irish Revolution Congress at which the condition of Ireland and the action of the British Government in connection with that country were discussed in violent and inflamatory language, and the use of firearms and explosives as means of redress were freely commended. It is stated that this congress is engaged in drawing’v > a programme for future action in which dyu„ mite will have a prominent place.
LONDON, August 7. Mr John Dillion, M.P. fo- tho comity of Tipperary, who was arrested on 2nd May last under the Irish Protection Act, and who has been lodged in Kiimainham Gaol since the date named, was to-day released from custody. Mr Dillion, it has transpired, was released from gaol on account ot his health. It is reported that tho close confinement he has suffered since his arrest in May has caused him to be severely indisposed. A serious railway collision occurred today near Blackburn, in the East Lancashire lino Five persons were killed.
