THE MALICIOUS TELEGRAMS.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —l find that a telegram appears in tho “Times,” Wellington, from a correspondent at Alexandra, which, I may state, I was made aware of by their own statements, but I did not think that any three gentlemen could concoct such a pack of dia bolical, contemptible falsehoods; in fact, they can be called nothing else but wilful, malicious fabrications. First, it states that the meeting was “ instigated ” by Mr Fyke’s friends. That word instigated is easily unfolded by perusing the Dunstan Times, in which an advertisement can be seen, calling a meeting for the purpose of protesting against tho proposed abolition of the Dunstan electoral district. This was done on principle—to take tho general welfare into account, not (as the correspondent would make believe) to take Clyde into account only. The very action is contemptible. Secondly, the time tho meeting commenced was 10 30, but it shews the vicious feelings of tho correspondent making it appear between the hours of 11 and 12. Thirdly, the correspondent states a definite number, including all tho people from Clyde, were present, but 1 can state positively that only one person from there attended, and he was on a business visit to Alexandra. The exact nnmber present I could not state, it not being necessary to count the show of hands, but I learn there was about 30 at the meeting. Every publicity was given to announce the meeting by the town-crier, and private messengers were sent to give tho correspondents a chance of expressing their opinions on the subject, but, seeing it was hopeless, they declined the invitation. Tho meeting was composed of the principal business men of the town, and tho resolution was carried unanimously.—l am, etc., J. SIMMONDS, Alexandra, Chairman,
