MELBOURNE, July 23.
Judgment in the Ferret prosecution was delivered to-day. Henderson, the reputed owner, and Wallace, the purser, were each sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment; and Wright, the captain, to three aud-a-half years. July 26. The elections for West Bourke and Ararat took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Sir Bryan O’Loghlen for the former by a small majority. Mr David Gaunson (the new Minister of Lands), was, however, defeated for Ararat by a large majority. The returns from Moira and Bellatite are not yet complete, but the reelection of Mr Bolton (Postmaster-General) and Mr J. H. Graves (Minister of Customs) for these constituencies is considered certain. ,
BRISBANE, July 20. Three cases of small-pox in South Brisbane were reported to the authorities yesterday. The sufferers have been isolated, and the necessary precautions are being taken to check any spread of the disease.
