At Auckland further prosecutions have been instituted against a loading millinery establishment for violation of the Female Employment Act.
At Wellington, the police have lately been visiting a number of public-houses, taking samples of spirits with a view to analyse, and where liable, subsequent prosecution.
At Christchurch, a public hall, capable of holding 1,200 persons, is to be erected by a company.
An Auckland telegram of the 23th ultime states that a robbery of L4OO took place from the Kamo Hotel, Whangarei. Rumors have been current lately at the Thames that leprosy is present among the Chinese resident there.
The Waihi goldfield is attracting considerable attention. In the Waitekauri mine, a few miles distant from Waihi, 12 men for an average four months work secured l.fiOOoz. of gold. # l-^ r - bkae, Inspector of Lunatic Asylums, died at Wellington on the 25th ultimo. An Auckland telegram states that smallpox is dying out at Honolulu. Copies of the revised New Testament have arrived at Auckland. At Christchurch, 0,. the 27th ultimo, a larrikin was fine 1 L 5, or a month’s imprisonment for wantonly striking a Chinaman.
