The Dunstan Times.
CLYDE, FRIDAY JUNE 24, 1881.
Beneath the rule of men entirely just The pen is mightier than the sword.
We were somewhat in error last week in our notice of the intent to appeal against the Resident Magistrate’s decision as to the duration of a billiard permit or license in saying that Mr Colclough was appealing on behalf of Manson. Mr Colclough is the business agent of Manson, but it is Mr Turton, solicitor, who had charge of the case in the RM. Court, who is appealing. The case is one of more than ordinary interest, as not alone will it decide the law, but will lead to a greater uniformity of action than has hitherto been adopted. The decision wo believe was based on the form issued from (he Government Printing Office, wherein it was laid down that the license expired on the 31st December in each year. But it came to the knowh dge of Mr Turton that other forms were in existence than the one referred to ; a second form stating 12 months from date, and a third, a year from date. The question accordingly requires settling as to which of these forma (if any) is the correct one, and we look forward to the judgment of the higher Court with some amount of interest
