EXTENSIVE ROBBERY". On Juno 1, a daring robbery occurred at Winchester, Canterbury. Tho particulars tn hand aro that a man named James M‘Manus abstracted acash-bnx, containing money and other valuable securities, to tho extent of L3OO, from tbo Winchester Hotel. Tho robbery took place about 8 o’clock, and accused was arrested shortly after. On .Timo4 he was brought before K. Fish, Esq., J. P., at the Geraldine Resident Magistrate’s Court, and remanded till Tuesday next. Ho was left in one of the cells, and after tea was discovered to have effected his escape. It is presumed that whilst Constable Thoroau was having tea some person withdrew the belts of the coll door, thereby permitting MVvlanus to escape. M‘Manns was arrested at Rakaia on tho afternoon of June 2.
