The special meeting of the Vincent County Council to consider the balancesheet and statements of the Treasurer for the past year and for striking the rate; also the usual two-monthly meeting for the transaction of ordinary business was held at Cromwell on Wednesday and Thursday last, the 25th and 26th inst., all the councillors, excepting Cr Masters (Nevis) being in attendance. For the want of time to prepare anything approaching a fair resume of the proceedings, we have to omit fiom this issue our report. In our next issue, however, a full report will appear.
A most welcome shower of rain fell throughout the district on Wednesday night lasting for some hours, the which we cannot but think will be of benefit to every interest.
From what we can hea*. the coming elections for County Councillors, which is staturorily fixed for November next are not likely to be the tame affairs they have previously been. For every Riding a keen competition for the honored post of Councillor is to be expected. We learn that pheasants, partridges, and quail are frequently met on the downs under the Dunstan range between Clyde and Chatto Creek, we hope any of our friends wherever they meet with these welcome strangers will not molest them, and for a time, at least, expend their ammunition on less worthy game. It is only by allowing them to locate themselves peacefully that they can be expected to settle down.
