The Dunstan Times.
CLYDE, FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 1881.
Beneath the rule of men entirely just The pen is mightier than the sword.
The hearty approval tliat is being given to the question—the “ releasing of the runs”—now being discussed by Mr 'Vincent Tyke throughout the county, must be very gratifying to that gentleman. We never for a moment doubted but that a majority would enrol themselves under his banner as Land Leaguers, but we scarcely expected so unanimous a vote in its favor. It shows very plainly the temper of the people, and .we think that no Ministry will bo so foolhardy as to ignore the demand to be made To be certain of success, however 1 , the question raustbe something more than a local one. It must reach throughout the length and breadth of thecoimtry, and then none dare say nay. Even His Excellency the Governor will be brought to “see fit” to carry out the law to suit the people. To bring this about, however, the sinews of war must bo provided, and as it is not to be expected that Mr Fyke—or any other Mr—can afford to fight the battle ou rnei e •plaudits, we would suggest the raising of a fund by half-crown subscriptions, and we do not believe there is a man hut who can afford so small a sum to gain so great an end. We hope our suggestion will be acted upon We would propose that every branch of the League collect it, and when the delegates from each branch meet to decide on the form of memorial to be laid before the Minister for Lands, tliat they form themselves into a Finance Com mittee to disburse the sum raised. We trust our contemporaries will support us.
