A man named Geo. .Saddler, on arriving from England at Christchurch with a letter of credit for £SO, found on arrival that the duplicate, which came by another mail,had been cashed by another Geo. Saddler. The accused—who can neither read or write—was committed for trial. The inward Suez mail has arrived at Albany] The Duke of Manchester will visit Dunedin on Monday. A little boy named Templeton was drowned at Kaiapoi yesterday. The privileges for the Christchurch Autumn Meeting realised L 248. Two more stacks of hay were burnt down near Tirnaru yesterday under suspicious circumstances. At the Supreme Court yesterday Thomas Fisher was sentenced to 9 months’ imprisonment for indecent assault, Joseph Good for sheep stealing, was sentenced to one years’ imprisonment. Charles Fowler, four years for larceny. A special train leaves to night for Oamaru, to convey the Volunteers to attend the encampment and review, and another about three to morrow morning. The affair promises to be a great success. It is reported that Mr Beetham, R.M. will be transferred to Christchurch, in place of Captain Mellish, who is Jin bad ho Ith.
