A Tauranga telegram of the 31st ultimo states that Mr MTvor, of Melbourne, conaiders that a very important sulphur industry ean be maintained at White Island. Wilson’s sulphur works at Tauranga will be taken over and improved. By a gazetted proclamation the prisons at Grey mouth and Lawrence are abolished. A new morning paper will be started shortly at Wellington with a capital ef L-5000. v
n Parliament will meet for business the first week in June.
At Auckland recently a publican was fined Lo for causing unnecessary delay in admitting a constable to his hotel on a "Sunday.
Mrs Hampton,the evangelist, is expected to arrive at Dunedin shortly.
During the month of March 33 vessels, of 889(1 tons, entered at the Port of Timaru. It is likely that a feature of the coming Volunteer demonstration at O.amaru will be a hand contest, open to all comers, A Wellington telegram states that the returns of the Customs revenue for the year are not vet complete, but already show nearly L 60.000 above the Treasurer’s estimate.
