PRESENTATION.

On Saturday afternoon last, March 19th, l6Bi, a few gentlemen, residents of Clyde, mot in the office of Mr F. J. Wilson, Solicitor, for the purpose of presenting Mr J. J. K. Stevens. Schoolmaster, with a token of their respect in the shape of a purse of sovereigns. Mr Wilson, who made the presentation said ;—From the very earnest manner in which Mr Stevens conducted hie school, and in recognition of the very valuable services rendered by him to the Hospital ; also, to the Church, his friends and neighbors had decided in a tangible form to show their appreciation of him, and would ask him to accept of the small amount subscribed. Mr Stevens, in returning thanks said he was taken completely by surprise as until within a few moments of coming into the room ho had not the remotest idea that such a thing was in contemplation. What he was doing he considered but his T duty, and would desire most sincerely to thank his friends for their present. Mr (r. Facho then presented Mr Stevens with a papier mache blotting-pad from one of his ipupds, expressing the hope that the town of Clydo may long continue to have the benefit of his presence and services. We may here mention that Mr Stevens ■prepared six candidates for the junior achoHi sliips last year, of whom, two were successful, and three others came well up in their marks and also, that at the late examination of the School by Mr Petrie, that gentleman reported that the School is one ,of the best managed in the Province of Otago, and that the two lads, who had ■passed the sixth standard were the youngest who had ever done so, neither, of them being eleven years of age,
