REVISION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT.
According to statements, unofficial but apparently authentic, the revisers of the New Testament have made alterations which will exite some consternation ami not a little regret among all those who are familiar with the authorised version. In the Lord’s Prayer, the concluding petition, “Deliver us from evil,” is changed Into “ Deliver us from the evil one.” Half-a-dozen of the most familiar texts in the New Testament will disappear altogether. • The ones tion “ What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose is own soul 1” is metamorphosed into “ What docs it. profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own life T’ “Hades” is substituted for “ hell ” in two well-known passages. The inscription on the altar “ to the Unknown God” will read “to an Unknown God.” Apart from these textual alterations and omissions, tlio revisers have abolished the division into chapters and verses, and printed the new version in paragraphs.—Pall Mall Gazette.
