(from our special correspondents ) DunbdtN, February 10th. The San F i'ancisco mail arrived at Auckland on Wednesday. The strike between the Union Company and their employdi has been amicably settled.
Tho Minister of Public Works, Mr W. N. Blair, aud Mr Ussher visited the works of Otago Central Railway to-day. They have not yet returned. In the cricket match Australians v. Nelson Twenty-two, tho latter made 83 in the first innings, and the Australians 72- Nelson made 77 iu the second innings. Tho game was drawn.
A bowling match was played hero to-day between Christchurch and Dunedin, when the latter won, tho scores being—Danodin, 56 ; Christchurch, 54. ■ A disastrous fire occurred at Tunstall, iu Staffordshire. • Twenty-one colliers are entombed, and there is little chance of rescuing them. Mr Walsh, a prominent man connected with tho Land Leaguers, has started for Australia. There is no nows. Arrowtown, February 10th. A man named Thomas Hughes was severely hurt yesterday by a fall of ground in the Homeward Bound claim, Macttowu. His skull was fractured and his ankle was violently strained. There arc chances of his recovery. Charles Clarice, who was hurt in the Tipperary claim by explosion, last week, is recovering.
