His dam Empress, own sister to Emperor, uas bred by \\ , If. a!py, Esq , out of Nancy (imported), by Napoleon (imported) Empress has gained the following prizes viz Second if. Dunedin in ISG6. beating Kimino’s celebrated bay mare Kate, which was sold to go to Canterbury for L22o' its 1508 ; gained the second prize at Taietiaml third at Dunedin, beating Nimmo’s old black mare Jem ; and in 1 S7<) gained second at Taieri, first at t hag Talley, and first at Elm-skin. She was only exhibited six times, and was successful cn each occasion. Nancy was by the famous Garvey horso, and was bred by Alex. Findlay, Esq., Sandyhtlls, near Glasgow, and was imported to Otago by W. U. Valpv, Ksq., per the ship Southern Cross, in ISSG. Nancy was first shown as a three-year-old in 1854, and gained Frat Prize at ' Hamilton, First at Baillcstown, Second at Glasgow, and Second at KiMhride. -She was next year shown as brood mare at Glasgow and Kildbiide, when she took Second Prize at both places. His sire, the coleb-ated imported horso Glasgow Geordie, by Champion, was bred by M r Andrew Warnock, Bcaryards, near Glasgow, out of lua Ibiza mare Maggie, wlu-se slock wore all prize-takers without exception, and, although uioarof them wero sold when under two years old, they realized in the aggregate over 1.1,200. Glas. gow Geonlia has taken the following prizes First at Maryhill, KirkintulloeU Bishopbiiggs, and Johnson ; in IBG7 ho gained First Prize a: T. komairiro, First at Taieri. and First at Dunedin ; and 1863, First at Taieri, and Second at Dunedin. Champion gained priz-s as a colt at al--1 most every show in Lanarkshire. When four years old he gained, the fcVst p, iz 1 of 1.40 an I a Silver Medal at Glasgow, where 28 horses competed ; when live years old he • gained the First Prize of 1.40 and a Medal ' at Gatehouse, O’Fleet ; also the same year 1 be gained the.
