MELBOURNE CUP.

Twenty horses started, and was a capital race. Mata never showed to the front. Progress led for some distance, w hen Lothair and Grand Flaneur -came up at the home turn, the latter winning a splendid race by three-quarters of a length from Prog-ess ; Lord Burghley was third, Martindale. Loth air, and Chester following Time, 3 rain 34| sec. Nanpsr Tandy was placed third by the judge, but this was found tn be an error. Grand Flaneur winning the Cup makes it hard on the bookmakers, as he has hoeu largely backed in doubles. His victory was very popular. All placed horses were strong favorites, showing that they were running true.
