DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held in the Town Mali Chamber on Monday evening last, the 2blh inst. Present—V. Pike, Esq. (Prmd ‘ent, in the chair), I!. Xaylor, Esq. (Vice-Presi-dent), ami Messrs Holt, Attlield, J. E Stevens (Treasurer), and Or. Each, (.Secretary, The minutes of last meeting were read and continued. Inward correspondence, including letters from J. E. Denniston, Esq , Manager Ida Valley Station, and Mr .1. 11. Kemp, Paid Hill Flat, with cheques covering subscriptions collected by them ; from Under-Colo-nial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of returns for quarter ending 3 ah June, and stating that expenses incurred iu commotion with entertainments in aid of the Institution are deducted from gross receipts, and subsidy allowed only on the nett receipts.

Resolved that the thanks of the Committee be recorded to Mr Uennistun and Mr Kemp for their kindly interest in the Institution.

Tire President asked if it was usual for the Government to allow subsidy ou the nett proceeds of entertainments. The .Secretary said the rule ha I b eu with the Committee to claim subsidy only on the nett proceeds.

The President said he fully believed that no other Committee in the country acted in a similar way, and he said by tins Committee adopting such a rule they wore acting most unfairly to the public. He looked upon it they might as well deduct all expenses incurred in the collection of subscriptions as to deduct the expenses of entertainments. Hu would write to tire Government on t.be subject.
