REMARKABLE DOG.
The Gaulois is responsible for the following remarkable instance of canine sagacity. years since, of frequenting the Pont dos St. Peres, where ho used to station himself with a clarionet and a very intelligent dog. The place was well chosen, and charitable contributions poured into the little wooden bowl which the dog held in his mouth. One day the blind man, who had reached an advanced ago, was not to be scon. Ho had fallen ill, in fact, and was unable to pursue his avocation. His faithful companion, however, continued to frequent the accustomed spot, and tha passers-by, to whom lie was familiar, understood that his master was unwell, and, touched by his fidelity, dropped their ponce into his bowl in increased numbers. After a time the beggar went the way of all flesh, an event which the wily poodle carefully kept to himself until he also became an absentee. His disappearance produced a great sensation among his numerous clitntllc, and a search was prosecuted, when the poor animal was form 1 ly'iug dead in a cellar near his former master’s abode, a sum of-20,0001. iu bonds of the Orleans railway being discovered usiilcr the litter on which he was stretched.”
