Toe inquest on the Kycburn murder was concluded late on Wednesday evening, when anopeu verdict was returned, with the rider—as the jury have been led by the evidence to suspect that the person or persons were Chinese an I looking to the extreme difficulty of prosecuting among them, they strongly urge the Government to offer a substantial reward to any one who was not actually the murderer, who may give information that may lead to the conviction of the murderers.—Five men were brought before the K.M this morning, under very suspicious circumstances, and remanded. Weluncton, Angt. 19th. Mr Pyke asked the Minister of Mines what course the Government intended to adopt with reference to the report of tlio Gold-fields’ Committee on the petition ot Hastie and others, which was laid befo u the House last ,session—the recommendation was to the effect that “ it appeared desirable that the freehold of M r Koran I should he resume 1, if it can he obtained .at a reasonable price, in as much as the only available course for the outlet of tailings is through this property, and the large sunn expended by the Provincial Government of Otago for the th : ropureh isc of auriferous Imd in the Wai keri-keri valley now being profitably wrought will have been expended uselessly, unless some outlet is secured for public use.
