A. telegram of the 2nd instant from Melbourne states that a party of police which left Benalla the day previously had arrived at Beech worth, but had seen nothing of the Kellys. The Bank of Sydney at Jaiiin li has been robbed by four armed men, who were masked. The manager of the Bank was engaged feeding his horses at II p.m , when he was bailed up and compelled to open the safe, from which L4BB in gold was taken. The manager's wife and sister were covered by revolvers while the money was being taken. The clerk was absent on leave, and the police were engaged on country duty.

Relative to the cheque exchange question the Bank of New Zealand at Christchurch has intimated to its customers that they will not be charged exchange on any cheque passed to their account. Two hotels at Christchurch (Morton’s and the White Hart) were raided by. the police on Saturday night the sth instant, and informations for gambling laid. In the Melbourne Legislative Assembly the Bill providing for the payment of members was read a second time on a division by 3S to 24. The measure provides that the payment of members shall not be limited to one session. Mr James Farmer has forwarded to the Auckland museum, from London, a case containing fifty different species of grasses suitable for arable land. A man named Concroft, the well-known bellman, was killed at Wellington on the Bth instant by a runaway horse.
