Mr Donald Stronaeh (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows fur the week ending 11th April : Pat Cattle.—The moderate supply of 122 head was yarded, but owing to the largo purchases of last week butchers were not anxious to buy, and there was accordingly hut little competition. Best bullocks up to JCt) 7s 01, or lint niore than 29s per 100 b for prime quality. Wo sold 2d head at yards, and have placed 20 p.ivately at quotations. Fat Ca'vos.—None forward. Fat sheep.—A medium supply of 1070 was penned. Bidding was very languid, owing to the trade being fully slocked from regent purchases. Best cross breds brought from 9s to 12s ; merinos, Sa (id to iia Odor, fequa! to about 2d per lb for prime mutton. Fat Lambs.— 102 came forward, and all sold at (is 91 to Ss Cd each. Store Cattle.—There is a fair inquiry fur well conditioned cattle, but few lots are changing hands. Store Sheep —The demand still eo iFnues, hut scarcely any lots are now to he obtained. Wool.—Local transactions have Inch limited. For tHe small lots disposed of, previous rates were obtained. We quote telegram from onr London office, dated Ctb Apn 1 ; “ There has been considerable private inquiry, but holders demand higher rates. Up to date, 250,00b hales have'arrived.”
Sheepskins.—At onr auction on the 12th, we offered a good sited catalogue. With a good attendance and fair competition, we disposed of every lot at satisfactory prices, full woolled half-breds fetching up to fis S i, and merinos, up to 4-t. Lambs realised 2 s id, and hoteliers' green skins from la lid up to 2s 7d. Hides. Demand ccntimms good, and well-conditioned lota of butchers’ green hides are readily saleable at 20s each, and wet-salted at 3j per lb. Tallow is in fair request, but the supply is limited. We quote up to 2tis per cut. for well rendered parcels. Grain.—Wheat; There is only a very moderate inquiry for prime milling and we doubt whether over -Is per bushel could 1 o secured for the choicest samples, and millers are holding back from purchases in expectation of lower prices. In fowls’ feed the demand is better, and we quote 2s Gd to 4s per bushel. Oats r.rj without the slightest improvement, and arrivals are being stored, the inquiry being only for the supp'y of pressing needs. Quotations would therefore be onl> nominal. Barley : several parcels of fair malting have hern placed at 3s G.l; the tendancy, however, is in buyers’ favour. For milling, we quote 3s, at about which transactions have taken place, hut the consumption is small.
