CLYDE ATHENÆUM AND PUBLIC LIBRARY.

A meeting of the Committee (or Trust) was held in the Town Hall Chamber on Wednesday evening last, the ISth ilist._ at 8 p. m. Present: —V. Pyke, Esq., Chairman, and Messrs F. J. Wilson, B. Naylor, S. Welsford, A. Joss, and Cf Fache (Hon. Sec). The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence was real and received. The Chairman stated that there was a question as to the legal status of the Committee through there having been no election in accordance with the rules ; he deemed it better, therefore, that beyond fixing the date for the election of their successors this meeting should do no hn-iness. A general discussion now took place, during which it transpired that since opening the Library free, the subscriptions received were not equal to the expen liture. The Chairman explained that to participate in the benefits under the Libraries Powers Act, it was not necessary to keep the Library doors open free, as ia the case in Boroughs—he would-therefore suggest that the doors be closed against non subscribers To meet the circumstance it would be necessary to alter the rules, and would suggest that a sub-Cummittee of the present Committee take in band the revision of the existing rules, and submit the same to a meeting of subscribers, and at the same time frame recommendations for the guidance of the incoming Committee. The Chairman, Mr F. J. Wilson, and G. Fache were nominated the sub-Comuuttee to revise the same, &c. Resolved—That the Meeting of the Subscribers to the Clyde Athentenm and Public Library be convene 1 for Wednesday the 25th instant in the Library Chamber, for the purpose of receiving the resignation and report of rotiring-Coinmittee, revision of the rules, and other important business. The meeting then dissolved.
