(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Dunedin, October 16th. In the Supreme Court Mary Davids rec ered from David Hirst, tanner, Kaipara, I.4'H) for breach of promise of marriage. Defendant was not represented. Plaintiff entered Lis service, when he proposed to her and was accepted. Then he seduced her, and after die became in an interesting condition he kept putting her off. The Crown to-day entered a nolle, prosequi in t.he whole of the remaining indictments against Waters. The subscriptions already received for the Octagon Fire Fund amount to Ll4O. (?) In the case Barker v. the Lyttelton Times, in which L3OO was claimed for libel a verdict for L 5 was returned. Arrived—Calypso and Lizzie Bell, from London, The Opposition want to force the debate on to-morrow, but the Government are l®trying to stave it off till Tuesday, in order to show mal-administration of Native Affairs. The Opposition at a meeting to-day discussed the advisability of refusing all supplies iu order to compel the Government to face the “ No confidence ” motion.
