Another subject that at the same time demands the attention of the people of this immediate locality is that, of opening the lands for settlement. It will be remembered that areas in Ida Valley, on Moutere Run, on Cargill and Anderson’s run, and on Earnsoleugh were taken and gazetted as being open for settlement, yet, beyond this mere fact but very little has been done. It is true that the land iu the three former blocks have been, or are being surveyed, but nothing further is known. If in this matter the people were in earnest to the extent they led the Government to behove when asking for the land, they must again raise their voices and demand that it he at once placed in the market. It has to be borne in mind that if many more weeks arc allowed to lapse before it is in the market, it might as well bo deferred for a twelvemonth, as from the present time there is little or nothing to spare to allow it to be utilised for the next year’s crop. In the strictly agricultural lauds this is particularly so, we therefore counsel that action he at once taken. A little timely pressure may have the desired effect, at any rate, it is worth trying for, and we recommend it. Our member has lately said the settlement of the people on the land is his hobby, his support may therefore he depended on.
