The Dunstan Times.

FRIDAY, APRIL 25, 1879.

Beneath the rule of men entirely just the pen is mightier than the sword,

Mr Vincent Fyke, M. H.R., whilst addressing his constituents on Saturday night last said, the lowest tenderer for the Wingatui section of the Central Otago Railway had declined to take up the contract, and said it was one of the dummy ones, that as a rule was amongst the tenders for large Government works Whether a dummy or not the fact is, there is no tender accepted, and it now, that is, if the people in the interior are desirous of ever seeing the railway completed, is incumbent on them to bring all legitimate pressure on the Government to either accept the next lowest tender or invite fresh ones. It may be urged that a year or so will make no difference as to when the line is startod or completed, but no greater mistake can be made—the prosperity of this portion of the country depends on the railway, and no stone should be left unturned to get it at once commenced. Meetings should be held in every centre, and petitions sent to the Government pressing that not only should the Wingatui section, but others further along the line, bo commenced at once.
