CLYDE ATHENÆUM.
A meeting of the Committee of Management was hehl on December 23. Present— V. Pyke, Esq., Chairman, ami Messrs Jos», VVelsford, and Fache, Secretary. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed. Tho inward correspondence, consisting of the following letters were read and received —From Jas. Hazlett, Esq., Dunedin, to the off ct that he had incorporated by registration tho Clyde Athenoeum under the Public Libraries’Powers Act, 1873, and that the cost of thesame, eighteen shillings, he desired to present as a donation. From A.O. F. Court Star of Dunstan, asking terms f r use of one of the rooms for holding their fortnightly im etings. From the Secretary of the Presbyterian Church Committee, asking use of Hall on Sunday afternoons. From Chess and Draught Club, asking terms for use of one of tho rooms two evenings a week. Resolved - That a Vote of thanks he accorded Jas. Hazlett, Esq., for his generous and kindly action in assisting to regi tor the Clyde Athenaeum ; also, for his contribution to the funds thereof. Resolved—That the A.O F. Court 3tar of Durstan he charged L 6 per annum, payable quarterly in advance. Resolved—That the Chess and Draught Chib he charged L2 Ids per annum, payable in advance. Resolved—That the Presbyterian Church Committee be allowed the use of the Hall free. Resolved—That for the use of the Town Hall, all travelling Companies of Actors or Singers, &c., be charged 20s. per night, and private parlies, Ids. per night—all parties to hear the expense of lighting and cleaning the hall. llesnlvcd—That tenders he called for repairing the ceiling, and putting the Hall in repair. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting. A meeting of the Finance Committee was held on January GPresent, V. Pyke, Esq., (Chairman), B. Naylor, (Treasurer), and O. Fache. (Secretary). Tho minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Receipts to date by the existing Committee were stated at. L4B 17s Cd. It was explained that for the current year a number of subscriptions hid been collected and expended by the old Committee, and that before the end of the current year, the 30th June, a good sum of money might reasonably be expected to be received. Accounts amounting to L 34 14s. were then passed for payment, of this amount it was pointed out that L 5 10s. was for periodicals obtained before the existing Committee came into office. The Chairman, while in Dunedin, was empowered to obtain books to the value of L2O. It was elated that a number of papers and magazines had been ordered from the Ist iasUat, and it vu toped when the
Committee were able to lay them on the tables, their efforts would be better supported. A vole of thanks to the Chair terminated the proceedings.
