TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE.

—o—(from our correspondent.) ATTEM PTED MU R DE R AND SUICIDE. St. Bathans, Jan. 9th, A dreadful suicide and attempted murder occurred on the Bth instant, between Ophir and Blacks No. 3. The particulars are as follows : • Whi’st Mrs WaMrenn was riding on horse-hack, in company with a friend, he driving a reaping machine—the road in IliD spot being one of the loneliest parts, having great toweling rocks allround. Suddenly her deceased husband rose from Ids evident ambu hj and presented a shot gun at her. At this time she was a little behind her friend, and she called nut " Don’t shoot me, Waldreon," and then immediately bent her head down behind the herse’s neck in order to save her face and chest. Waldreon immediately fired, the contents of the gnu lodging principally in her tight arm, Jaceiating it to a iri.htful extent. The horse she was riding bolted in consequence of a great portion of the shot lodging in its shoulder ; also tbe horse drawing the machine bolted. When her friend heard tbe report he looked round and saw Iter fall. He also saw Waldreon carefully and rapidly re-loading the gun. He immediately lifted Mrs Wald-con up and carried her to t\lr Love’s residence. She was very weak at this time, and bleeding copiously. A search party went out the following morning in order to arrest Waldreon. They found his dead body lying behind a rock, he having shot, himself. Mrs Waldreon is now lying at the Commercial Hotel, St Bathans, under the care of the local surgeon, who believes it will be possible to save her arm. Waldreon had been absent for the last two years, and did not contribute anything towards the support of his family. Great sympathy is expressed for poor Mrs Waldreon, who is noted for her industry in and around tbe district where she has resided lor the last fourteen years.
