ALEXANDRA.

New Year’s Day. This day w a celebrated by a whole round of amusements that lasted from early morning till early the next morning, The attraction of the day was the 1.0. G.T. Golden Stream Lodge Anniversary Picnic and Sports ; of the evening it was the Concert followed by alb nee. The day being beautifully fine the Picnic was lar ely attends 1, and there being every variety of sport, including a cricket match, running, jumping, vaulting, etc., etc., for males; and kissdn-the-iing, hunt-the-slipper, forfeits, and such like pastimes for young ladies, and, oh ! what a bevy of beauties was there, —while the older ones sat and looked on, or moved about from group to group, meanwhile telling of their deeds of “killing” in their younger days ; and some, may be, wishing themselves young Benin so rs to be able to enter into the merriment. The whole scene was, indeed, a pleasant one, mid the only regret that can be expreyed is that such like gatherings are so few and far between ; it was truly a happv one, and all expressed themselves as having been delighted. Throughout the day there was plenty of music, the Alexandra Brass Band alternating with the soul stirring strains of the bagpipes, most masterly played by Mr McKay. If the day's sport was a success the Concert in the evening was positively more so ; and the Dance afterwards which was carried on into the “wee snia’ ” hours brought the whole to a close. To minutely detail the Concer I should encroach too much on your space, and to barely mention the performers, or their perfor mances would be but scant courtesy, in faith it would be to insult, and as such would be ungracious. I will adopt what 1 cannot but think the wiser course, and express my own satisfaction, and unhesitatingly say that a hearty vote of thanks is clue to each that gave her or bis assistance in supplying so delightful an evening’s amusement ns that of New Year’s Day, 1679. - Communicated
