—o—(Bv Cable.) {From our Dunedin Exchanges.) London, November 2.3rd. The British advanced and shelled AH Musjid, in the Khyber Pass. The Ameer’s troops w'ere strongly posted. The attack was postponed until the remainder of the column arrived, [Later.] The British attacked AH Mnsjid yesterday afternoon. The Afghans evacuated it last night, after the British cannonade. The troops occupied the place till morning. The British loss was trifling. November 24th. The Viceroy of India has issued a proclamation justifying England’s declaration of war against the Ameer, and averring that hostilities are directed against the Ameer, and not against, the people of Afghanistan, whose inderendence is recognised and respected. Further, England would not tolerate the intervention of any power.
November 28th. The Glasgow Bank dividend will be declared shortly. A letter from the Duke of Argyle states that Gladstone's Government refuse! to accede to the proposals of the Ameer of Afghanistan because he asked for an offensive and defensive alliance against internal and external foes. Bomb, November 27th. Tho wide-spread Socialist agitation in Italy is causing uneasiness. Many arrests have been made. Vienna, November 27th. During a Cabinet Council, at which the President of the Hungarian Council of Ministers and Count Andrassy were present a bomb was exploded outside of the building but no one was hurt. Calcutta, November 29th.. The Ameer of Afghanistan is concentrating his forces on Cabul, which is being strongly entrenched. Athens, November 20th. Five Turkish troops of Reserve Eedifs have committed massacres at Netruek, Macedonia. London, November 20th. The failure of Taylor and Sons, cornsellers, of Glasgow, is announced. Their liabilities amount to L 130,000. Tho s.s. Garronue has brought on the Brindisi mails. November 30. Tho Afreedees attacked the signalling party at Kbyber Pass, which was blocked by convoys stopped by the heavy firing at Ali Musjid. Only one tribe now remains hostile. December 1, Correspondence from Central Asia shows that General Kauffman is in constant communication with tie Ameer. The Russian Government treat tho marching of their troops on Cabal as an independent act of General Kauffman’s, declaring he is only on sick leave, and the motive one of simple courtesy' to the Ameer. Russia repeats her past assurances that she has no intention of intervention in the Afghan affair. December 2. General Roberts’s force has advanced, and found tho enemy posted at Pi war Pass. He made a reconnaissance, and disclosed the enemy’s position, and an engagement ensued, resulting in the defe it of the Afghans. The British loss was slight.
