ENTERTAINMENT ALEXANDRA.
- 0— Tho Alexandra Amatcut Dramatic Entertainment in the Town Hal), Alexandra, on Wednesday evening last, the 18th instant, in aid of tho funds of tho Alexandra Library, was as usual a well-merited success. Tho weather being beautifully serene and calm no excuse was offered for non-attendance, and from the crowded state of the hall wo think there were but few in all the district who were not present, and if genial good humour, with occasional bursts of applause and merriment at each hit was any criterion of enjoyment, we can then say that a most enjoyable evening was spent. Tho local Crass Band having played a very well executed piece of music in front of the hall, and an overture in the orchestra, which was well received and loudly applauded, the call bell sounded its welcome note, and the curtain rose to the ,farce of “D’ye know mo. now,” in which the characters wore—Mr W. Forrest, No-go Dumps ; Mr F. Williams, Septimus Selwcll Jolly ; Mr Telford, Jabcz Sniggins ; Mr Aldred, Samuel M aitwell. We do not purpose to particularise the acting of any of the characters, contenting ourselves by saying all wero letter perfect, and each took bis part as if bred and born to the occasion. The curtain falling, Miss Odell, who must bo recognised as a most . accomplished musician, played a selection of music on tho pianoforte greatly pleading the audience. Mr Sams and Mr F. Wi'bams then each sang a song, after- which there was an interval of ten minutes. Tho audience having again assembled the curtain rose to tho laughable burlesque “The Belle of the Barley Mow,” which was most excellently played, demanding deafening peals of laughter, Mr Forrest taking the part of Old Tom Toddy ;Mr Williams, Mary. the-Bolle; Mr Aldred, Charlie ; Air Suns, Sir Carton Guardblack. A great improvement was noticeable n tho scenic arrangements, tho hack of the stage being an entirely new scene, and wo feel—though refraining from particularising the acting—in duty bound to accord a special word of praise on the artist. Dr Feltbam, who mur.t have devoted a deal of time in getting up the scenes so capitally. The programme being ended, tbo hall was cleared for dancing, to which some thirty couples remained, breaking up about " a.m.. the Brass Band supplying the music throughout, thus bringing to a close as pleasant and successful an affair as ever was given in the Alexandra Town Hall.
