THE STRATHTAIERI RAILWAY.

A deputation of Otago members of the Assembly, consisting of the Hons. Sir F. D. Kell, \V. IT. Reynolds, R. Campbell, Paterson, and Fraser, and Messrs Seaton, Do Lautour, Thomson, Oliver, Murray, Rrow n, and Hodgkinson, waited by appointment, at 2 p.m to-day, on the Minister for Public Works.
Tho lion. W. If. Reynolds, Chaiimau ef the Otago Committee. introduced tho deputation, and explained tho views held by the Otago members, which, with one exception, he might say were unanimous that tho line was of too great imnortauco to the South to be neglected.
The lion. «T. Macandrcw expressed himoelf as much alive to tho importance to Dunedin and Otago of the construction of the Strathtaiori railway as any of the deputation could bo. The Government had not overlooked it, and had full information in tho matter. Their proposals were not fully matured, but bo thought he might venture to say that in a week or ten days, when ho revealed the public works decided on by tho Government, the members of the deputati m would be satisfied. A sufficient icsorve of land, as they were aware, had been made.
Sir F. D. Bell and some others doubted tho area being sufficient, but agreed with the Minister that it was a matter of opinion and detail.
Tho deputation thanked Mr Macandrcw and withdrew.
