THE COUNTY OFFICES.

—e—(to the editor of the dunstan times.) Sir (n your article which appeared in the Duustan Times ou Friday last with reference to the laying of the foundation stone of the County Council Chambers, you state the ceremony was to he performed by the Masonic craft, who were specially invited. Now Mr Editor, bow was it you did not inform the public who it was invited the Masouic cratt—as Secretary and being a Mason yourself, you must have certainly known who the iuvitatiou camo from, and in justice to all concerned you should have stated who it was, so that the blame could ho saddled on the right shoulders. From the tone of your article, the public would conclude that the invitation came from tho County Council, and that afterwards a plot was hatched by somebody to bungle the whole affair. For the information of the public, and in justice to myself, I wish to state, tho invitation to the Masouic craft never came from the County Council. 1 have, attended tho whole of the County Council meetings’since the building of the Chambers has been started, and the question of laying the foundation stone was never spoken of, there were no invitations issued, and the question never came up in the Council in any shape or form.- Tho first I knew of the matter was, seeing the advertisement ip the Dunstan Times, and knowing the County Council were not consulted, I made up my mind not to attend, as I considered the County Council had been treated discourteously. Tho building is the property of the County, and the County Council has control of it, and I think they have more reason to complain of being insulted than the Masonic craft. The public will see by the foregoing that if any insult has been offered to his Honor, Judge Harvey ami the Masonic craft, that tho County Council must be exonerated from all blame in the matter, and MrEditoryou must have known this notwithstanding anything you may say to tho contrary. Yours, Ac., — M. J. MacGinnis,

(Since tbe publication of onr remarks alluded to, it has been ascertained that the 'County Council, as a body, arc not blamea* ble, the misunderstanding that arose haa been clearly traced, bnt it is considered that no good purpose could nntO be effected by further‘pursuance of the matter.— E«.
