LECTURE.

A lecture on behalf of the New Hebrides Missions was given in the Town Hall, Clyde, on Wednesday evening hist, by the Lev. A, Blake, M.A. The p-oceediugs were opened by the singing of the hymn “ I »m so glad that our Father in Heaven,” when the Chairman introduced the rev. lecturer by stating that those present, no doubt, took a lively interest in furthering the Mission cause, and more especially the New Hebrides Mission, seeing that its range of operations is in the more immediate neighborhood of New Zealand and Australia. Mr Blake then, after a short prayer, gave a graphic account of missionary woi k in Rarotonga and adjacent islands of the Hervey Group, when he proceeded to give -interesting narratives >.f the native customs. The work in Now Guinea was also described, where the London Missionary Soc’cty are just breaking ground. Reference was also made to the work in tho New Hebrides, to which the proceeds of the collection was devoted. Tho missionary hymn “ From Greenland’s Icy Mountains,” was then sung, when the Rev. Mr Blake again riveted the attention of his audience with a reading, entitled, “ Herrings tor Nothing," illustrating from an incident in the life of a London clergyman, tho fullness of salvation. Another hymn—“ Daniel’s Band ’’—was sung, when the Benediction was pronounced and the audience dispersed, greatly pleased with what they had heard.
