CONCERT.
This week we have had another opportunity of enjoying one of those treats which occur too seldom, which, whilst they afford pleasure and gratification, produce also a more substantial benefit in the fostering amongst us funds for objects either of charity or amusement. That they are appreciated, the crowded Hall on Tuesday evening was a sufficient evidence—especially as we saw amongst the audience, friends who had come some distance to enjoy a musical evening—a pleasure we all were assured of hy seeing in the programme the names of old and appreciate! favorites with a sprinkling of newer aspirants for our favor
We feel diffident in criticising where all have done their host, and that, at considerable personal inconvenience ; but we hardly think that this Concert was equal to some that it has been our privilege to hear in Clyde—it may have been the effect of the dullness of the weather, or some defect in the room. AVe could not, however, fail to appreciate the beauty of the violin solos and duets, with piano accompaniment. Tho pianoforte solos were hardly equal to the usual brilliant execution with which the lady has played before; apparently, she was slightly nervous. The songs—" Jessie’s Dream ” and “ Hocked in the cradle of the deep,” were sung by one, whose voice is nl ways heard with pleasure and received their merited acknowledgment—tho Quartettes were well sung AVe were agreeably surprised with the improvement in tho voice, both in clearness and volume, of the lady who took seumd in “ 801 l Mahone.” Tho songs hy the gentlemen were well rendered, our old friends making their usual mark, whilst interspersed were some comic songs, which appeared to ho appreciated by the audience. Mrs Stevens, Miss Macgeorgo and Miss Odell gave great assistance by ar. companying the singers. We understand that the Concert wound up with a dance, at which the hotter do velope l understanding of the Company were called into requisition.
