DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was hold in the Committee Room, Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday evening last, the 3rd instant. Present— B. Naylor, Esq. (President), W. L. Simpson, Esq. (Vice-President), and Messrs Attfield, Auckland, Cambridge, Holt, J. E, Stevens (Treasurer), and G. Fache (Secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. Correspondence was road and received. The Visiting Committee’s No. I report was read and received. Report No. 2, recommending payment of accounts for salaries and supplies for the past month, amounting to LB2 19s Cd, was read and received. The Treasurer’s report, ns follows, was read and received :
The Resident Surgeon reported that during the month three patients had been admitted, four were discharged, and that three remained in the Hospital; and suggested that in the event of its being decided to open a lying-in ward in the hospital, arrangements should be made with the matron to undertake the nursing ; and also that no destitute persons should bo admitted into this ward, as it would materially add to the expense, and as he (the Surgeon) never refuses to give his services gratis to any woman in such a condition and who is unable to pay. The report was received.
The Visiting Committee reported that since the last meeting they had had the Hospital race put in thorough repair from its source to the Dunedin road, and that they had had a survey made of that portion of the race from Mr Oliver’s paddock to the Hospital. This work, it was explained, was gratuitously done by Mr Macgeorge, County Engineer, and that they had received a tender from Mr Williams to complete the lower portion of the race for L 5 10 s. Resolved, That Mr Williams’ tender be accepted. Resolved, That the thanks of the Committee be conveyed to Mr Macgeorge for his services inhurveying the race. Mr Holt was authorised to arrange with Mr Young for the use of water from the Hospital race for domestic purposes.
Mr Holt was elected member of the Visiting Committee, vice Rev. Mr Dewe retiring. Mr Auckland moved the motion tabled in hispiame, and notice of which had been given, respecting the establishment of a lying-in ward in the Institution. A long discussion ensued, after which it was resolved, That clause 61 of the rules and regulations which debarred “Women for the purposes of confinement being admitted into the Institution” be rescinded.
Resolved, That a lying-in ward ho established in the Dunstan District Hospital for paying patients, and that fees, payable in advance, be charged for each case as follows Doctor’s fee, L 5 os; nurse’s fee, 15s : bhard, &c., LI 10s per week, and that the President and Treasurer only bo empowered to issue tickets. Resolved, That the Doctor’s fee derived from the above description of cases bo paid to the Resident Surgeon, and the nurse’s fee to the Matron provided she does not require extra assistance in the work of the Institution.
A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
