About a fortnight ago (says the Timarn Herald) we drew' attention to the fact of the leaves of the Koromiko shrub possessing valuable medicinal properties ; and we are glad to learn that the information has proved of benefit to more than one person in Timarn. One gentleman, we may mention, had been suffering very severely from dyspepsia for several months previously, and not having been able to obtain any relief from the ordinary doctors’ stuff, determined to test the virtues of the Koromiko. He procured a quantity of the young leaves of the shrub, and treating them the same way as tea, tn->k two or three cupfuls of the decoction warm every day for a week. The result is that he ia now almost completely cured of his complaint, and has regained strength as well as spirits. We believe an enterprising person might make a fortune by distilling and selling a medicine from the Koromiko ; ns it Would, we feel convinced, prove much more efficacious in curing bowel complaints than ninety-nine out of every hundred of the advertised pills and drugs.— Verb sap. The weather tor the past week has been very unsettled, it being a succession of storms with rain and snow. In the low lying portions of the country the winds were unprecedentedly high, doing a great deal of damage. At the Teviot especially was this the Case, it, in its fury levelling a brick building in course of construction, and doing no end of other damage by the compete demolition of small out buildings ; the effects from the rains also have been disastrous, the roads in many parts being torn up and rendered temporarily impassable. The Vincent County authorities wore, however, equal to the emergency, and quickly had large gangs of men repairing the damige. If but the neighbouring Councils exorcise the same vigilance no great inconvenience to the travelling public will bo experienced. All the high lands have a pure white snow covering them ; the benefits from this will be great as it will replenish the supply of water which for some time has been so short as to compel many of the miners to submit to a compulsory spell of idleness. The barm, however, is expected to be great to our squatting friends, ss by the sudden and unexpected break of the weather no preparations were mod" to remove the sheep, and it is thought that numbers will be smothered in the snow.
