The debt of the municipality of New York is increasing. On the Ist of January last it stood at L22',621,510 exclusive of the sinking fund. On the Ist of August it had increased during the preceding seven months L 2,371,200, or at the rate of L5.682,5fi0 per annum. The debt of the city is estimated as equal to L 33 per man, woman, and child of population.
