The Paper and Printing Trade Journal gives the following receipt for making a nonpoisonous vegetable fly-paper :—Powdered black pepper is mixed with syrup to a thin paste, which is spread by means of a broad brush upon coarse blotting paper. Common brown syrup v ill answer, but syrup made from sugar is preferable, as it dries quicker. For use, a piece of this piper is laid upon a plate and damped with water. The following appears in a London Daily Telegraph of a recent date The following authenticated statement of the present cirdilation of the Daily Telegraph will be read with interest : “We hereby certify that we have this day examined the hooks in the publishing and printing departments of the Daily Telegraph, from the Ist May to the 30th June, 1877, inclusive. We find that the number of papers printed during that period has been 12,837,400, showing a daily average of 242,215. This wo further state is the greatest daily average we have hitherto certified from the hooks of the Daily Telegraph (signed), Turqnand, Yonge and Co., accountants, 15 Token-house yard, E.C., firth June, 1877.” It is needless to add that such a return over such a period of time has never before been made by any dai'y newspaper in tho annals of journalism.
