DDMMYISM AT ROXBURGH.
The following occurred at the Sitting of the Waste Lands Board held on the sth instant, in reference to the applications for land in Blocks 9 and 10, Mount Benger district : Mr Bastings : There is one thing I want to bring before the Board. 1 see there is a reference to the report of great dummying on this land near Roxburgh. Well, it is perfectly true, however anyone may contradict it. If you go over it, yon can easily ascertain for yourselves. I took the trouble myself to go over it. Of course I received the telegram which was made public, and 1 saw tho latter in the paper. I never answer these letters in the paper However, I say this dummyism is a fact. Mr Strode : What a shame ! Mr Buttenvorth : What a shame ! Mr Bastings : 1 would not allow any chance ot allowing dummyism to exist here, and Ido not like to see the land gained surreptitiously. I move—“ That the District Land Officer be requested to place these people on their oath.” We want to keep the Court pure, and to keepthe people as pure as we can. The oath should be taken. Mr Strode ; He is acting in his capacity as Warden, and not as District Land Officer. Mr Bastings j We can call his attention to it. The Chairman; 1 will write him about it to take what steps lie can to prevent dummy ism. Mr Bastings : lam sure that Mr Simpson will do all in his power to put a stop to dummyism. It was understood that the Chief Commissioner would have the matter investigated ou behalf of-the Board.
