—o— Tlio success which attends business pcowho advertise their wares is well exemplified in the following extract, which we take from fi pamphlet forwarded to us by that world-renowned vendor of pills, Professor Holloway, ho says :—“ It was my rub from the commencement to spend judiciously all the money I could spare in publicity, which wont on increasing from year to year. In In 1842 I expended LSOOO in advertising. Time rolled on, and from the hitherto unthought of yearly outlay of LSOOO 1 increased it to 1.10,000 in the year 1845. At the time of the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 my expenditure was 1.20,000; in the year 1855 it had risen to T." 0,000 ; and in the present year (1877) it has reached 1.40,000, in advertising my medicines in every available manner throughout the globe. He also states that he deems it his duty to make some acknowledgement to the public for the means which, through them, ho possesses. In furtherance of this intention he has Commenced the building of a college for Women of the middle and upper middle lasses, on an estate of 95 acres, situated bout 18 miles from London. It will have
a capacity to accommodate 250 students, and a duly qualified lady physician will reside in the college, and will have a specified course of studies, similar to that of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. It will also provide for the foundation of 20 scholarships of L4O each. The building, &c., is estimated to cost L 250,000, to which he will add an endowment of L100,0()0. lie has alrSady erected a Sanatorium for the cure of mental disorders, at a cost of LIBO,OOO, and endowed it with L 30,000. It is situated near Virginia Water Station, and will accommodate 125 males, and the same number of females of the middle class. It will nearly be self-supporting. He adds the following prov'ao —.Neither epileptic, paralytic, or presumed incurable patients can be received. Patients will not bo allowed to remain for a longer period than 12 mouths, and ho patient will be re-ad-mitted.
