A great battle is imminent, there bein'; 100,000 men on each side. Mnkhtar Pasha remains on the defensive. The Russians have evacuated Kvstendji. lloMli.vy, Friday, 11 a. in. The left wing of Mehemed’s force is marching forward to combine with the array under Sulicinan Pasha, whoso cavalry is now beyond the Balkans. MelikofTs army has been reinforced, and has resumed offensive operations. Ismail cheeks Tergnkason. London, August IlJth. The Russians have evacuated the Balkans with heavy loss. A second Danube bridge has l>een competed, and largo reinforcements of the Bussians are crossing. Bustchiik is being bombarded, and lighting is going on at the different points without any very important results. Mehcmet Ali and Sulicinan Pasha arc pushing on to effect a junction ; and the llussians, who have been reinforced, are advancing their centre and left wing. An important battle is expected. Frightful massacres have been committed be the Turks, without distinction of age or sex. The revolted towns and villages have been burnt in every direction. The llussians are suffering from fever and dysentery. The Turks are healthy. Bombay, Ainivst 18th. The Hessian Imperial tlnard have hern called into service, including all those capable of hearing arms who have hitherto been exempt. fiourks has gone to -St. Petersburg to 1 rug the Guards to the scat of war. Wellesley has returned to Bulgaria.
Indecisive lighting is taking place at Batoum. August 10. Suiioman Pasha is at Elena, north of the Balkans. Salonioa is in a state ot siege. I’oti in Asia is deserted, Holiart Pasha is at Sino|ie, Turkey is increasing hei army. August 20, In skirmishes in the vicinity of Uustehuk the Turkish official despatch states that a detachment from the garrison repulsed the Russians. The I’ussians are advancing against Turkish force near the Dohrudscha.
