ALEXANDRA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

—o Tho ordinary meeting of the Town Council was held on Wednesday, June 6. Present —The Mayor, (in the chair) and Crs Theyers and MacXersey. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. A letter was received from Mr Noonan’, asking tho Council for permission to take water from the Corporation race for domestic purposes. Permission was given for him to take water from the 18th of June, and to continue during the pleasure of the Council. A letter was received from the Treasurer, Wellington, advising the Council that the sum of Ll3 os 8d had been placed to the credit of the Borough Fund Account, The Mayor read a proclamation from the Government Gazette, May 18, abolishing the Licensing District of Alexandra and placing it in theClydedistrict. Considerable discussion took place on the subject, when it was ultimately resolved to call a public meeting at an early date for an expression of opinion on the subject, and that the Town Clerk write by the first post strongly protesting against the abolition as a great injustice to the district. The Town Clerk was directed to press for the payment of all unpaid rates, and to collect the goat tax at once, there being over one hundred goats on the run, and only six registered. The usual vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
