Beneath the rule of men ENTIRELY JUST the PEN is MIGHTIER than the SWORD. FRIDAY, MAY 25, 1877.

The Stamp Department issue, by way of handbills, and by advertisement in some favored journals a caution under the Stamp Act, 1875. Being aware that the caution is most necessary, as the system of transfering shares—more especially on the goldfields —is anything but the correct one. For the benefit of all interested we reprint it, and would suggest to holders of shares “to make a note of when found.” The caution is as follows:—“ Transferors and Transferees of Shares in Gold Mining and other Companies and Societies are warned against executing any instrument of Sale or Transfer unless the name of the Purchaser or Transferee is inserted therein at or before the execution thereof, a maximum penalty of One Hundred Pounds, under section 103, being incurred thereby. Any such Instrument, moreover, so signed, is absolutely void and inoperative, and does not divest the Transferor of his interest therein, but he lemains liable thereon as if he had never disposed of the same. If the Transferor be a licensed Sharebroker, his license is forfeited on conviction, and thereafter he is disqualified from acting as a Broker, or from having a fresh license issued to him, No Sharebroker or other person is entitled to any commission or other fee or reward in respect of any sale or transfer unless the Instrument of Transfer is filled up with all necessary particulars to make it a complete Instrument, and is duly stamped.”
