The inward correspondence, consisting of letters from the General Government asking for return of all Corporation reserves, date of proclamation, and for what purposes granted ; and an appl'cation from Mr T. Webb for the use of the Town Hall for a Tradesmans’ Ball on the 23rd instant, were read and, received, and the outward correspondence was adopted. The Town Clerk read the statement of receipts for the month, including revenue from Bridge amounting to L 33 odd, the amounts booked it was stated brought the receipts up to about Ltd, or LlO per week, Cr Auckland said that the Corporation fire buckets wore getting in a very delapidated condition, and he thought it advisable a fresh lot should be obtained. In the event of a fire there was nothing available to aid in extinguishing it. The iMayor said the whole subject demanded consideration. The power of appointing officers to pull down buildings to prevent the spread of fire was in the hands of the Corporation, but up to the present! nothing had been done. The appointing of these officers and the procuring of buckets and other appliances were necessary, and should be attended to. As the meeting, however, was not a full one, he would ask Cr Auckland to defer dealing with the question till the next meeting. The suggestion was acted upon. With the customary thanks to the Chair the meeting terminated.
