CLYDE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

—o— Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening last the 3rd instant. Present—Benjamin Naylor, Esq., Mayor, in the Chair, and Councillors Welsfor J, Joss Cox, Beck and Auckland. The minutes of previous meeting were read from the rough minutes. It was satisfactorily explained by the Town Clerk the reason the minutes were not fully entered up in the Minute Book. A letter from Mr J. Holloway, applying for leave to fence in an acre of ground around his dwelling. After discussion it was resolved that the Town Clerk inform Mr Holloway that they have no control over the land applied for, and that whatever improvement he may make on the laud he does it at h : s own risk. The Council, however, has no objection. After con,si leration of offer from Messrs Stro le and Fraser to give L3O per annum for right to cross and recross the Clyle Bridgewith station horses and vehicles. —Be solved that the oiler be accepted. Besolved that the Masonic local body he charged Ll2 10s. for arrears of rent, and that in future they be charged 10s. per meeting for the use of the Hall Over the ab ive item there was somewhat of an acrimonious debate, some members of the Council averring that the full pound of flesh should hj i extorted. The consideration of construction of water race on the high terraces at the rear ■of tho town was further postponed till next meeting. Resolved—That the Town Clerk take the necessary steps to fill vacancy in the Council created by the resignation of Councillor Joseph Mastic. Accounts amounting to LSB 13s. were passed for payment.
