CLYDE SCHOOL.
The Annual Statutory meeting was held in the School-house, Clyde, on Monday evening last the Bth instant. Mr Benjamin Naylor was voted to the Chair. Annual Report. Your Committee’s term 'of office having now' expired, in accordance with tire usual custom, they beg to present their Annual Report and abstract of accounts. The number of Scholars on the roll at the close of the year is—Boys 45, Girls 45 total 90. Tho average attendance during the year being 654 as against an average attendance last year of 53, shewing an increase of 15^. While congratulating parents on this very satisfactory improvement, the Committee nevertheless would urge on them the necessity of greater regularity in the attendance of the children, not only for the sake of the pupils themselves, but by reason of the fact that a very slightly increased average would place the Committee in a position to claim a larger salary allowance from the Government. Financially the Committee are glad to be ab’e to report the School in a satisfactory position. The accompanying Balance Sheet shows tho receipts for the past year to amount to L 371 14s G l , against an expenditure of L 354 2s Bd, leaving a balance to the credit of tho •School in tho Bank of Ll7 11a KM. The School has no outstanding liabilities, while it possesses assets amounting to Lsl 2s 7d, viz.,—Balance in Bank, LI” lls l(Jd, fees outstanding unpaid L 33 10s 9d. To this latter heavy item the Committee desire to draw special attention, and take ' advantage of this opportunity to specially request that parents of children attending the School should pay the fees punctually when due, as at present the Committee are often crippled for funds to meet the ordinary | expenditure. During the year the Committee made application to the Government for a Grant of money in aid of alterations and repaiis to the School buildings, and were successful in securing a subsidy at the rate of L2 to LI locally subscribed. The result has been that on these terms a sum of L 74 7s has been received from Government, of which the greater part has already been expended, the balance being retained to meet tho cost of various improvements contemplated by the Committee. During the year the' School has not hcen visited by a Government Inspector, but the Cominiltee have every reason to bo entirely satisfied with the progress made by the pupils, and with the general conduct of the School. The School is still so fortunate as to retain the services, as Master and Mistress, nt Mr and Mrs Stevens, who continue to possess the entire confidence and esteem of the Committee, indeed, to tho conscientious and successful manner in which Mr and Mrs Stevens have performed their onerous duties, the Committee have no hesitation in ascribing the state of efficiency in which they are happy to be able to hand over the Clyde School to their successors.
